Panther,

I run a nice calm joint here. When we want to run with things like that, we check if your man's been shaving anything new lately, and run over there.

Ahem.

Will Rogers may not have thought about the logistics, but I do think he meant men in the sense of "folks," not in the sense of "people with you-know-whats."

I'd say we're going to have to put you in the third category, for freezing your tongue in that manner. Worth noting that he didn't actually say which category he belonged in...

I think he's right, by far the biggest category is those who've just got to try it even though they know they may get zapped. Under certain circumstances, not involving frozen posts or electric fences, it's probably what moves society forward. :)

Regards,

"There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."

...and those who just don't seem to learn at all. Even after they've zapped their you-know-what!

I don't learn by reading. I definitely have to see it done. Then I have to try it myself. Never tried the peeing on fence thing, but I am a girl, so that might be more challenging. I have been known to get my tongue stuck to a frozen metal post!...oh dear...nobody's going to take that and run with it are they?

Graham,

You sneaked under as I was typing. Sounds like some electric fences teach cows more than people. I'm with Friar, though--I'd rather take your word for it.

Regards,

Friar,

Ah! So you are a reader! An excellent path to choose. :)

If you weren't the first commenter today I hope you know I would have been very disappointed in you.

Will Rogers: Good lessons, told so oddly you can't possibly forget them. Love how his brain worked.

Glad to see you so early in the a.m.!

Regards,

I did stumble over an electric fence, back in my younger years. We were tramping through Belgium near the Battle of Waterloo site and for some reason decided to race down some hill or other. (My buddy and I were always racing -- perhaps a guy thing in your early 20s?)

We got to the bottom and there was this thin wire sort of like fishing line but a bit wider. He hopped over, but of course I had no idea what it was and grabbed it.

It was low voltage to keep the cows in, but still quite a shock (literally) when you're not expecting it.

Can't say I learned anything though. My buddy and I are still idiots when we get together...

I've never had the pleasure of peeing on an electric fence myself. But I'll take Will Roger's word for it....
