Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow…
Tip of the Week has jumped in to your Friday to announce that it will not be appearing on Saturday (but fear not, I’ve cooked up something special for our weekend).
An announcement, and a tip (for you read-between-the-lines types), all in one.
Grow and be well,
Kelly Erickson

Hmmm, reading between the lines and not wanting to speculate or blow the secret I think I’ve cracked so anxiously awaiting the weekend post. Love the don’t push on a rope, lots of good insight there.
See you tomorrow!

Don’t push on a rope… unless it is -20 outside and the rope is frozen. (I have one outside right now, if you like…)
Incidentally, another great tip is “Don’t push on a banana”.
Seriously though, I second Karen’s motion. And congrats on the format tweak! Perfect for us try-to-avoid-the-computer-on-the-weekends types.

Heh heh. That’s one of three things an engineer need to know.
1. Sh*t floats.
2. Water goes downhill
3. You can’t push a rope.
Forget the 4 years of university. This is all you really need.

Okay lady, what are you up to on Saturday?
27 February 2009, 4:20 pm
All,
As I mentioned to Friar last Saturday (sorta), pushing on a rope was getting silly. So we’ll push on a banana for a while (and now for something completely different), and TotW will take a rest.
Or maybe it’ll move to Fridays. It hasn’t let me know how it feels yet.
When your editorial calendar isn’t working for your audience, you have to change the editorial calendar and think about the audience. So I’ve been busy considering both for a while now.
It’s good advice outside of the blogosphere, too. Haute cuisine in a rural town with pop. 300? Not too sensible. Ice cubes to penguins? Wait another 40 years.
Et cetera…
Regards,
Kelly

Kelly – works for me, as I don’t do much blogging on the weekends. (BTW Don’t push on a chain either.)

@Friar – Ha, that’s the problem with engineers. They never think outside the laws of physics. (lol)
@Kelly – When life gives you bananas, make banana daiquiris.
Shamwow, and lookin’ forward to it.

I had to stare at the tip for a while looking for the tip, because it was one of those “well yeah” things where I thought “there must be something else here that I’m missing.”
But nope – a nice simple tip and the real tip for me is that often things are obvious and simple and there’s no need to look for other meanings.

Todd,
‘Zactly. That’s the read between the lines part.
Alex,
Don’t push on a rope means whatever you need it to mean—sometimes we’re doing things that don’t work for our clients.
For me, it meant the Tip has been losing ground for a while, and it was time to cut it loose. Whether it’s the fault of the Tip, the author
, or the weekend, it’s time for a change on Saturdays.
The Round Table is something I’ve been wanting to do here at MCE for a long time, and the Tip’s had a 60 or 70 week run—I’d guess that’s plenty of Tips.
Of course if it’s the fault of the author a change in what I post won’t help, eh?
Later,
Kelly

My two cents: certainly isn’t the fault of the author.
