To Go Where Your VisionPoints, a few inspiration points for you and your business.
There is no point at which you can say, “Well, I’m successful now. I might as well take a nap.”
— Carrie Fisher
You’re slogging away, trying to make it. Day after day, trying to grow this little venture that you laughingly call a business, in the face of reluctant prospects, “conservative” budgets that look a lot like zero, and the constant drumming of the bad-news tom-toms drowning out all else.
You’ve got the blinders on the best you can, you’re working overtime, and your thoughts never seem to leave the business. Growth that once came easily is now wrenched out One. Dollar. At a time.
The pressure you’re under is immense.
When things were going well you put yourself under the same strain. As Ms. Fisher says, you never have let yourself take a nap. So even though being overwhelmed and occasionally depressed makes that snooze pretty inviting, remember that this pressure isn’t brand new. The drive to excel is part of who you are. Your customers love that about you. Accept the pressure with a knowing wink, and it will instantly let up just a bit.
You’re not alone
Sounds more like the Romantic hero (heroine) that way, and maybe you like the sound. But the myth of going it alone is garbage. You’re not a Romantic hero, and you don’t have to go it alone. Get help for your business instead of sticking your head in the sand. Invest in the future, because it’s definitely on its way. Now’s the time to get out of the role of the Owner-Martyr. It doesn’t sell.
Get help in your down time, too—surround yourself with friends who can help you grab a laugh, wherever you can find it. Laughter is a way better medicine than that nap. It’ll power you up to take on the challenges of the recovery.
You’ve made it this far. You are successful now. No pressure, but no naps either.
Grow and be well,
