Mel,

I snapped a few shots of James, long hair and all, but I had to be pretty sneaky. :)

Nobody's as photo-phobic as I am, though. Not even a wince in the pix I took—anyone who tries with me gets a lot of me making horrid faces. So I couldn't complain.

Melinda,

I tried to get a picture, but you may remember from <a href="http://maximumcustomerexperience.com/2009/08/04/5-things-about-customer-experience-cutting-james-chartrands-hair/" rel="nofollow">another post,</a> the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/amatuerphotographer/2643912387/sizes/m/" rel="nofollow">hair was too long</a>...

James doesn't like photos where the hair and the awesome cap compete for attention.

James,

ROFLOL. Better late than never!

A gift for a king...

Made more perfect by the fact that Le Roi never wandered in and read this post at the time when I wrote it, which would have ruined the surprise.

À tres bientôt,

Kelly

May I just say that I love my hat, it is indeed the Perfect One, it made me laugh and I do wear it indeed.

And I love it more now that I know what you went through to get it for me. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Tony,

(Massachusetts moment: Haven't thought of HoneyDew in a very long time. Woosh.)

You know, the DDs down here are like that, too. I wonder what it can be at the corporate level that causes them NOT to emphasize service more with their franchisees?

Alex,

Dudeshoes also has no way of reading in English or Spanish (though they have links offering each), except on their peculiar blog, and I didn't feel like exercising my limited Italian muscles... but more, if you're going to be named "dudeshoes," won't a lot of folks who speak English be trying to enjoy the site? *sigh*

I remember Spanish clerks well. And Spanish shoes... brought quite a few home. Glad you had a better experience with the service than is usual there.

At one of my fave lunch spots today the service was so good I was thinking we ought to have recessions more often.

With exceptions (!), it does seem to bring out the people-pleasers at many stores. And why not? Costs nothing, works like a charm.

Until later,

Kelly

While shopping at the sales in Madrid, we did a lot of shoe shopping because we needed shoes. Now normally Spanish sales clerks have a bad reputation for acting like the customers are an irritation for daring to enter the store (but not quite as bad a French store clerks). However, in every single store I was helped but in a very unobtrusive way.

In the store where we found the shoes of our dreams, it was packed with people and yet the sales clerk was very good at selling without being pushy and while leaving us to fight with other customers for a good look at the shoes (because there's nothing quite like the sense of competition to get you to buy something).

Raul bought shoes there, but the size/design of my choice wasn't available. When we got home, I discovered a website - http://dudeshoes.org - and went exploring. I would have been willing to spend more money than at the store for a pair of this AWESOME shoes, but then I discovered that the site, while it has a catalogue has no way of buying online and now I'm devastated...

Next time we're in Madrid, I'm going back to the store and I have my fingers crossed that they have more designs and sizes.
