Wednesday Words
To Go Where Your VisionPoints, a few inspiration points for you and your business.
Entrepreneurs are not the ones with the best ideas, they’re just the ones willing to jump off a cliff without the answers.
—Andrew Weinreich, creator of SixDegrees, quoted in Focusing Just A Few Yards Ahead at the American Express OPEN Forum
We’ve all had great ideas come to us from time to time. Some folks will sit around for hours and tell you in hushed tones about all the ideas they’re going to get started on “some day,” and if you listen, some of them do sound pretty amazing.
So what happens to those ideas?
Never be afraid of someone stealing your ideas. Heck, if you want to go ahead and steal off a list of someone else’s ideas. (I printed out that list and wrote dozens of promotion and Experience Design ideas all over it, by the way. Very cool, thought-provoking list.) Because it isn’t about the ideas, even the great ones.
It’s about you.
Are you willing to jump off the cliff?
Grow and be well,
Kelly Erickson

Barbara,
Glad you liked it. That list is a delight, just right for cliff-jumpers who want to expand their thinking!
Regards,
Kelly

It might actually be *better* to tell other people of your plans – that could provide the encouragement you need to jump.
Ready? 1-2-3-JUMP!

from someone in free fall, I can say the ground doesn’t get less scary as it gets closer, but there’s always a hope that some loose skin around my arms will make me catch flight!

@Todd,
And if that doesn’t work, at least the end will be quick and (relatively) painless!

thank God! funny, the thought of the crash is worse than the real thing!

@Brett and Todd
It’s not the fall that kills you. It’s the sudden stop at the very end.

that chute I was counting on turned out to be just a napsack

Brett,
‘Zactly. There’s a lot of power in just saying where you want to go out loud.
Todd,
Please, no reminders. Doesn’t Michelle Obama torture me enough?
Semi-seriously, that’s very true—most of the time the thought of the crash is worse than the real thing.
Friar,
ROFL. I love Wednesdays at MCE. I never know where this’ll go. And I can still pretend to steer the conversation back to the topic at hand. Mostly!
Until later,
Kelly

I think it’s worth jumping, even if only to enjoy the free fall. It’s a pretty cool place to be.
Who cares about the bottom? We all die anyway. And if you happen to catch flight, even better.
See you on the edge.

Andy – great perspective. yeah, why not have some fun before we die!

Andy and Todd,
I like that. It is a pretty cool place to be.
I’m smiling, thinking of all the people I know who think it looks like an awful place to be—I think only someone who’s done the jump can know how cool it is.
Later,
Kelly
