Wednesday Words
To Go Where Your VisionPoints, a few inspiration points for you and your business.
Nothing ever built arose to touch the skies unless some man dreamed that it should, some man believed that it could, and some man willed that it must.
—Charles F. Kettering
Are you a dreamer? An enabler? A doer? There’s a need for you and your talents.
You might touch the skies a lot easier if you don’t try to go it alone.
Grow and be well,
Kelly Erickson

But (if you believe the story…)didn’t they try that with the Tower of Babel?
How successful did THAT end up….?

Friar,
They weren’t willing that it must, as I recall… they were doing someone else’s will. Self-determination (as you well know) is the key.
You work at Tower of Babel, Inc. don’t you?
But I know you have the dreams you require to move on to a more stable tower. Just have to find a couple of others folks to get your back (and push, LOL).
Regards,
Kelly

I’m all for being independent. That’s good stuff. But moving on to interdependence with each other needs to be our common goal if we ever hope to build anything of lasting value. That’s where the synergy and magic happens.
Happy Wednesday Kelly.

Actually, I work at the Tower of Jenga.

@Friar – You have assumed that touching the sky is an inherently good thing, whereas Mr. Kettering seems decidedly neutral on that subject (going on this one sentence, which is the only evidence we have [unless of course we try to look him up on the Internet {but that would be absurd and surely a waste of time when we have conjecture lying right here at our feet}]).
The Tower of Babel, as you mentioned, Icarus’s wings, and the Golden Arches — maybe we need to rip a page out of Casey Kasem’s book and add the humbling phrase “keep your feet on the ground”.
Lo verily, for those who touch the skies with arrogance in their hearts, things will surely break bad.
Or something like that.
(Oopsie, did I wander off topic again? Must have taken a wrong turn in Albuquerque…)

Philosophers gone wild…. anybody got the video rights on that?
And oddly now… is that Hendrix I hear ??? ….. ‘scuse me while I kiss the sky….
Sheesh
I take a little hike over to see what’s up at Kelly’s of a Wednesday….and I see the lofty summits of aspiration, the gentle firm challenge to maximize our sense of that …and comfortingly, the Canadians at their wonky best, Wendi and her wisdom…
And all I have is, “hey Graham while while you’re near Albuquerque, drop on down toward Soccoro and visit the Very Large Array”… all pointed at said sky.
Now where is that mellow ambiant music I had going before I took that turn? Jimmi keep it down okay? Purple haze? Kind of blending with Don’t Fence Me in and Back in the saddle again.
Artist waves hi to everyone. Is it a tower we’re building then? Couldn’t we just build a little cottage by the sea? With a great fridge and a lot of frosty beer?

@Graham
I’ve always admired Casey Kasem.
Anyone who’s done the voice for Shaggy from Scooby Doo, is okay in my books!

Wendi,
A little of each is a magic tonic. I agree. And Happy Wednesday back at ya!
Friar,
ROFL.
Graham,
Kettering (Friar probably knows him, he was an inventor/sciencey-dude) was a fairly positive guy. From other things I’ve read I think he was suggesting touching the sky can be a good thing. But going with your thought, he doesn’t say we should be in the skies, just that things get built to touch the sky with this blend of teamwork. So yea, follow the path of Casey Kasem. Verily.
Janice,
Darn. Now I wish I’d titled it something more patterned after Hendrix. Where were you last night?
A little cottage by a very cold sea, please. I’m sweltering over here.
& a cute little wine cooler right next to your beer fridge, stocked with a ton of summery reds. Mmm.
Glad you liked it. I’m off to build something to touch the sky now…
Until later,
Kelly

I’m definitely a dreamer and an enabler and working hard on being a doer too, but find that one a huge challenge!
6 August 2009, 7:26 am
Alex,
Oh, I hear you on that! For me—I’m a little of each for sure, but it depends on the people I’m with what strength I bring out. My parents are dreamers, they need a doer. When I’m there I’m all action. In my work I enable clients and others. Believing in their big picture is a big part of my work. The rest of the time, I love to use my dreamer skills.
Until later,
Kelly

@Janice — I’d like to take *any* turn in Albuquerque! And yes, the Very Large Array would most definitely be on the itinerary.
BTW, love the cottage idea. To paraphrase Mr. Kasem once again: “Keep your butt on the lounger, and keep reaching for the beer.”
@Friar — Like, exactly!
@Kelly — I actually half-expected you to call me out on the whole Golden Arches reaching for the skies thing. After all, they’ve done fairly well so far. To which I would have replied: “The whole McStory hasn’t been written yet…” Lo, verily.
