It’s Not News to Natives—Robbins Rocks

Best. Billboard. Ever. Follows all the rules, and yeah, made you look—that’s not her middle finger, gents.

Hmm, just wondering what the equivalent “He’s Tired of Waiting” billboard might look like.
“Police Department… Yes ma’am, I’ve seen the billboard. No ma’am, it’s not what you think — it’s one of those 3D puzzles of the Eiffel Tower, just really close up, I believe… I don’t know ma’am, maybe it means you should take him to Paris?”

@Graham,
Just to riff off of you, assuming that she and he eventually “get what they were waiting for”, let’s fast forward 10 years into the union with both partners working, kids, and so on…
She still has the ring, and he is… once again waiting!
8 September 2009, 3:14 pm
Graham, Brett,
Bad. You are both bad.
Picture driving by this. Whether the road’s clear (rare) or jammed (frequent), it can make its point and stick with you for its cleverness, eh? All summer I’ve been meaning to put this post up, driving by it and finding it continues to make me chuckle (trying not to get in an accident while snapping a picture was the challenge).
Horrifies The Kid, too. “Mama, look!”
A bit like the Eiffel Tower. *ahem*
Regards,
Kelly

@Brett – Ah, but there are still more rings to be had! That’s the little trick they don’t tell you about! Diamonds are not forever; they only last until the next one.
Sadly, as you point out, the same isn’t always true about trips to Paris…
@Kelly – Yes, it is a brilliant billboard. There was a discussion going on at MwP not long ago about words vs. images — you should link to this billboard to illustrate how one can’t work without the other!
(However, I’m not sure about the jewellry store itself… Something about an open-shirted owner shouting “Yeah!” somehow doesn’t evoke shades of Tiffany’s…)

Graham,
He’s a Philly icon. And yes, very Philly. We love a deal and a little enthusiasm here, none of that blue-blooded blue-box starched-shirt stuff, LOL.
Words vs. images at MWP. How terrible that I don’t remember it! (Shh, don’t tell James, who loves my near-photographic memory…) If you have it handy, feel free to drop a link here, then maybe I’ll pop over and add to the conversation.
Until later,
Kelly
P.S. ROFL at “they only last until the next one.” Brilliant.

@Kelly — here it is, literally just last week: http://menwithpens.ca/copywriting-or-design

Thanks, Graham. How did I miss it? Well, now I’ve thrown my hat in the ring.
8 September 2009, 4:30 pm
Yes I saw that — good on ya!
I think we pretty much agree in this respect.
“Words and image, words and image
Go together like a horse and carriage.
This I tell you brother, you can’t have one without the… other!”

Ah, I can hear Frank now…

…what, you mean like rolling in his grave? lol

& protecting his legacy from the grave… I went looking for a link on YouTube and couldn’t find one, aaargh.

When I picture a commercial for Someday Syndrome, I have short 3 second clips of two families – one getting ready for school/work in a dark cramped (but expensive) kitchen with everyone screaming and stressed – the other a family all in pretty white clothes calmly having breakfast on a boat in the Mediterranean with blog skies and sun – with it fading to black and then the words (print and text): Are you living the life you want? Then fading into Someday Syndrome and my email tag line: Change your life by finding and living your dreams.
8 September 2009, 6:21 pm
SHE’s tired of waiting.
The questions is, what’s she willing to do, to speed things up?
(*ducks and runs*)
Heheheh.
8 September 2009, 7:01 pm
Alex,
Pretty simple. That could be a billboard, really. Time to do a little slideshow-editing and put it on the SS homepage?
Friar,
I dunno, cook up a steak?
(*ducks and runs*)
Hehehe.

Kelly
8 September 2009, 8:18 pm
@Friar,
(…) I can’t say it heh heh
@Graham,
Well, diamond is the second most stable form of carbon, so they eventually turn to graphite… though not as quickly as those trips to Paris peter out.
(Hmm, I think I just made a dirty joke, sort of.)
8 September 2009, 8:40 pm
GOOD Images. GOOD Words. Those create brilliance in 6 seconds flat.
Otherwise… *cough*
8 September 2009, 9:28 pm
Brett,
I had no idea a good billboard could go so bad. Thanks for showing me the dark side, um, sort of. LOL.
James,
Well, that’s true with anything, yes? Ads, copy, music, art, product design, movies, books, blogs like yours
… Good stuff works, otherwise, *cough.*
Luckily this is an example of the really rare, underappreciated art of good outdoor work.
Until later,
Kelly

@Brett
Yeah..but we know what the answer is, DON’T we?
(Heh heh heh).
@Kelly
Cook a steak.
Actually, not that bad of an idea.
I’ve seen you’ve remembered some of my tips on how to attract the opposite sex.
If a steak isn’t’ available, a good sam-wich is always an option.
9 September 2009, 6:32 am
Friar,
This is SO off-topic, but I can’t resist…
Believe it or not, I have occasionally been capable of attracting the opposite sex on my own. I didn’t have to remember your tips.

And it’s not even the Wednesday post, where I half-expect shenanigans. Yeesh!

Hey, those purple boots weren’t just made for walking…
(Wow, two Sinatras, one post. What are the odds?)
~Graham
9 September 2009, 9:46 am
@Brett – lol – so after all that, all they’re going to end up having is a stubby pencil on a ring?
Hardly seems fair on either side.
~Graham
9 September 2009, 1:33 pm
@Graham,
Yep, she gets a stubby pencil on a ring, and she also gets a stubby… nevermind. Anyway, that’s why we have to “make hay while the sun shines”, “use it or lose it”, or something like that.
9 September 2009, 5:01 pm
I like hay…
9 September 2009, 5:01 pm
Oh, dear, I do cause my own problems some days.
9 September 2009, 7:44 pm
“I like hay…”
